Zach and Tammy travelled to Lucca with their parents for a private wedding portrait session in Italy. They had already celebrated their wedding in the United States the previous summer, but they wanted something different: a timeless setting, historic architecture and a quieter, more intimate experience.
Lucca offered exactly that.
We met in the historic center, surrounded by Romanesque churches and stone piazzas, before moving to the villa where they were staying in the countryside near Orentano.
A Wedding Portrait Session in Piazza San Michele
Piazza San Michele is one of the most iconic squares in Lucca. The façade of the church, with its layered arches and sculptural details, creates a dramatic yet elegant backdrop for wedding portraits.
Zach and Tammy chose this location simply because they loved it. There was no symbolic meaning attached to it. It was instinctive. They saw it, and it felt right.
The historic architecture, the open square and the contrast between the white dress and the stone façades gave the portraits a refined, cinematic atmosphere.
After the couple portraits, we also took family photographs in the square before continuing the session outside the city walls.
From the City to a Private Tuscan Villa
After the photos in Lucca, we moved to the villa where they were staying near Orentano, in the Tuscan countryside.
The atmosphere changed completely.
Large windows, natural light and interior spaces allowed us to create more intimate and fashion-oriented portraits. Tammy’s fitted mermaid dress worked beautifully in these settings, especially in the vertical compositions that highlighted its shape and details.
Some photographs were inspired by ideas she appreciated stylistically, but many of the images were shaped directly by the architecture and light available inside the villa. The reflections, the glass surfaces and the interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces allowed for a more creative approach.
The result was a second part of the session that felt softer, more personal and visually layered.
Why Choose Lucca for Wedding Photos in Italy
Lucca offers something unique for couples looking for wedding portraits in Italy.
It combines:
- historic architecture
- elegant piazzas
- a human-scale historic center
- and quick access to the Tuscan countryside
For couples who want Italy without the intensity of larger cities, Lucca provides a balanced atmosphere: refined, authentic and intimate.
Zach and Tammy’s session reflects exactly that balance.
