There are weddings you photograph.
nd then there are weddings that feel personal in a different way.
Michela and Davide chose to celebrate their destination wedding in Lucca, Tuscany, between the intimate church of Farneta and Villa Le Molina in Molina di Quosa.
For couples coming to Italy, a wedding is never just an event. It becomes an experience shaped by family, landscape and atmosphere. This day was exactly that: intense, emotional and deeply connected to the people around them.
Getting Ready: Family, Friends and Vintage Vespas
The day began in the homes of their families, with that quiet tension that always comes before something meaningful.
Davide got ready at his parents’ house, surrounded by friends and relatives. What started as a calm morning slowly turned into a lively gathering. Later, he and his friends arrived at the church on vintage Vespas, a detail that perfectly reflected his personality and added a distinctly Italian touch to the day.
Michela prepared at their home, accompanied by her mother, her sister and closest friends. After hair and makeup, and a few intimate family moments, she walked downstairs to meet her father for the first time in her wedding dress. Moments like this don’t need direction. They simply need presence.
The Ceremony at Farneta Church
The ceremony took place in the small church of Farneta, a charming hilltop church overlooking the Certosa area near Lucca.
With around 160 guests, the space felt full and alive. In intimate churches like this, preparation is essential. Knowing where to move, how to remain discreet and how to tell the story without interrupting the ceremony makes all the difference.
The celebration was enriched by live music performed by a musical theatre group the bride is part of. The church was not only full of people, but full of voices.
Photographing a religious ceremony in Italy requires attention and respect. If you would like to read more about this aspect, I wrote a more detailed reflection on how I approach church wedding photography.
Couple Portraits in the Tuscan Countryside
After the rice toss outside the church, while guests made their way to Villa Le Molina, we took a short detour into the surrounding hills.
This is always one of the most important parts of the day. Not only for the photographs, but because it is often the first quiet moment the couple shares alone.
We used the rolling hills of the Lucchesia countryside and the iconic cypress-lined roads near the Certosa to create clean, timeless images. No forced poses. Just space, light and perspective.
It’s a short pause, but often the moment when the tension of the day truly fades.
At Villa Le Molina: From Garden to Stage
Villa Le Molina is one of the most appreciated wedding venues near Lucca, offering elegant outdoor spaces and a beautiful portico ideal for summer celebrations.
When we arrived, guests were already gathered in the park in front of the villa. The aperitivo became the first collective celebration of the day: hugs, glasses raised, conversations blending together.
Music played a central role. During the cocktail hour, the bride joined her vocal coach and friends for live performances, turning the garden into a natural stage.
Later, the gates of the villa courtyard opened and dinner officially began. The evening was dense and vibrant: speeches, laughter, playful moments between courses.
Under the portico, a small musical performance prepared by friends transformed the reception into something uniquely personal.
After dinner, we returned to the park for the cake cutting and bouquet toss. The light had changed by then, softer and warmer, giving the moment a completely different atmosphere.
The celebration continued under the portico with dancing and the kind of energy that only comes after a full, emotional day.
A Wedding That Stays With You
Photographing a destination wedding in Tuscany means more than documenting a schedule.
It means understanding that couples who choose Italy are often looking for something deeper: atmosphere, connection, landscape and people.
Michela and Davide’s wedding at Villa Le Molina was built around family, friendship and music. A celebration rooted in personal history, yet framed by the Tuscan countryside.
And that balance is what makes a destination wedding in Lucca truly memorable.
